Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Understanding Your Inner World with IFS
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a compassionate, non-pathologizing approach to therapy that understands the mind as made up of different “parts,” each with its own role, emotions, and intentions.
Rather than trying to get rid of difficult thoughts or feelings, IFS helps you build a relationship with them. When we approach these parts of ourselves with compassion and curiosity, we are often able to break free of the internal battles that keep us stuck.
The insight that comes from getting to know our parts often gives us a path forward to identifying and meeting our needs and healing from trauma.

How IFS Helps
IFS can support you in:
-
Understanding and softening inner conflict
-
Healing wounded or younger parts of yourself
-
Reducing shame and self-criticism
-
Developing self-compassion and clarity
-
Strengthening your connection to your core Self

What to Expect
In IFS therapy, you’ll be guided to notice and connect with different parts of your inner experience in a safe and curious way. Over time, this work allows protective parts to relax and wounded parts to heal.
At Heartwise, IFS is practiced in a trauma-informed and neurodivergence-affirming way, honoring that all parts have a purpose and deserve care—not judgment.
