Reframing Recovery

About the event

This workshop explores addiction through a trauma-informed and neurodivergence-affirming lens, understanding substance use and other behaviors as adaptive responses to overwhelming experiences, unmet needs, and differences in how the brain and nervous system process the world.

Participants will gain insight into the connection between trauma, neurodivergence, and addiction, including how sensory sensitivities, emotional intensity, masking, and chronic stress can shape coping patterns. We will explore how addressing underlying experiences—rather than focusing only on behavior—can support more sustainable, compassionate healing.

This workshop is designed to complement the 12-step recovery model by integrating trauma, attachment, and nervous system-informed approaches alongside the structure, accountability, and community that many recovery programs provide.
